"Wave" Goodbye to TX

Our middle child couldn't be more pleased to be leaving for Malibu, where she will be one of the newest transfer "Waves" at Pepperdine University. This photo was taken a week before all the packing began.

We had two cars to pack and four passengers to transport from TX to CA, so we had quite a bit of room for all of the collegiate apartment life necessities.
Sorting through clothes took a while.
"Only" 35 pairs of shoes and boots made the cut for the trip to college.
Try as they might to stow away in the luggage, the "California" Maine Coon duo had to stay put deep in the heart of Texas. There are no pets allowed on PepPURRdine's campus. Why do cats love luggage so much?

There is one cat allowed to make the trek back home to California. "Meow-Meow" is a Kitty Kitty Kitten that was waiting in Liesey's crib for her when she came home from the hospital. That was nearly twenty years ago! Meow Meow looks pretty tired, but is still a well-loved, sentimental favorite.
The big bro is another favorite...
He was not able to go along on the sendoff party/road trip with the rest of us, as his college classes were ready to start. Besides, somebody needed to stay in Texas and hold down the fort.

8-15-2014  -  Day 1: The cars are loaded, and we are ready to roll.
LOOK OUT!
First stop? Flagstaff, AZ
The sky was fantastically photo-worthy as we made our way into Arizona.

We spent the night at Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort just outside of Flagstaff. Our accommodations were very comfy, as this hotel is only about a year old. Although the girls are posing inside the casino, no one spent 1 cent on any gaming or gambling. We simply passed through to get to the dining area, but I felt like we needed a picture to illustrate the "good luck" we experienced on an uneventful first day of travel. We are 915 miles closer to our destination.
